Chapter 8
The Beginning of a New Story
And Sara wrote.
She didn't think about the two boys at the back of the class. She didn't think about whether the story was good or not, childish or not. She simply wrote, the way people breathe.
She wrote about a girl called Luna, who was born from the moonlight that fell on the window of an old library, on a night when an old grandmother heard her granddaughter crying. She wrote that every night Luna sang behind a magic door — an old song that only someone who needed a friend could hear. And she wrote that Luna waited sixty years, until a shy girl with a green ribbon in her hair heard the song and opened the door.
She wrote about friendship. About two girls from two different worlds, each of whom learnt something from the other: Luna learnt how to be real, and Sara learnt how to be brave.
And as she wrote, a golden thread came out of the tip of the key — a thread unlike any other. It was wider and stronger, and it shone in two colours at once: gold and silver.
