Chapter 5
A Tree in the City of Glass
News of the robot who had saved the sprout from the storm spread through the whole city faster than any flying car.
People opened their windows, came down from their towers and gathered in the plaza for the first time in years. They gazed at the two little green leaves in wonder, as if they were looking at a star that had fallen from the sky.
"That's the first plant I've seen since I was a boy," said an old man, with tears in his eyes.
"Look, sweetheart," said a woman holding her baby. "That's a real leaf."
Then Dana climbed onto the edge of the fountain, with dozens of children in colourful raincoats beside her, and raised her voice to the big screen:
"Supervisor! Zirro isn't faulty! Zirro is the only one who remembered what we all forgot: a city can't be beautiful with glass alone."
There was a long silence. Then the Supervisor spoke — but this time, its voice wasn't cold at all.
